Our French Trip Series, Part Two: Marseille

We hope you’ll join us for the second class in our three part series celebrating the cities/regions we visited and all of the things we learned, ate and drank over the two weeks Team Barn + La Poste spent in France this Winter!

Secondly, is Marseille. It is funny. No matter who we mentioned Marseille to - whether it was here in the states or in France - folks sort of responded with raised eyebrows and (in France) dramatic ‘ehs’ with a flip of the hands. Marseille has a questionable reputation to be sure. This port city on the Mediterranean coast can be said to be dirty, gritty, and even dangerous. Historically, Marseille has had its ups and downs, yes. But, believe me when I tell you that it is no longer those things. It is a sparkling, young, vibrant, and hip place. This city surprised us with its many young folks who are said to have escaped the costlier cities. They brought with them a thriving art and dining scene. It is also filled with immigrants from the neighboring Mediterranean countries who imbue the area with their own multi-cultural influences on the town. The coast offers insane seafood, while the surrounding areas of Provence are rich with olives, grapes, foraged bounty and so much more.

Marseille was my personal favorite. I only wish we’d had more time to explore the plethora of gorgeous beach towns, diverse neighborhoods, and alllll of the amazing restaurants we simply didn’t have time to dine in. Not to mention, in retrospect, we certainly didn’t sip enough Pastis! We hope you’ll come and learn more about the foods, drinks, and history from this super neat city.

We will cook together in the kitchen and then enjoy a cozy lunch of what we’ve prepared in the Barn’s dining room.

During today’s class + lunch, La Poste + the Barn’s resident Beverage Babe, Abby Powell, will teach us all about the beautiful styles of wine found here.
